Inventor HSM Pro specific

  • In a Swarf operation, Shaft & Holder collision detection only works in surface driven mode.
  • Collision detection of turning operations during simulation is not fully functional yet.
  • Beta mode only: Spun profile in the Model section of the Setup does not work yet.

Inventor HSM and Inventor HSM Pro-specific

Contour Selection

  • Selecting an open contour as the Machining Boundary in the Projection command results in an empty toolpath.

  • The Morphed Spiral machining option in the Pocket and Horizontal strategies may fail in some particular cases.
  • The rest machining “From Setup Stock” machines to the part boundary instead of to the stock boundary.

All versions of Inventor HSM (including Inventor HSM Express)

Contour Selection

  • The CAD point selection manipulation function does not support splines.
  • The preview of the machined area for 2D contour selections may be incorrect in some cases.
  • The Height Plane’s position will be incorrect if you select a sketch line as the reference.
  • No guarantee that all sketch browser nodes can be considered as invalid geometry input by operations.
  • Clicking on the direction arrow of the selected contour can be difficult at times.

  • Cannot create drill on a slanted face by using the "Selected points" option.
  • The Morphed Spiral machining option in the 2D Pocket may fail in some particular cases.
  • Incorrect toolpath is created in 2D Pocket when geometry selection is based on a “Counterbore” feature.
  • Cannot edit Pattern by double clicking on the Pattern browser node. You can edit the pattern by using Right-Click + Edit.
  • Migration of 2D Adaptive using the Taper angle option is not supported since this option is disabled in the 2016 version of the HSM software. As an optional solution, you can recreate the operation with 2D Pocket.
  • In nested tool patterns, only the first pattern instance is displayed. Use simulation to see the complete pattern.
  • The position of Tabs is wrong for a 2D Contour operation when the By distance method is used, and if the projected contour height is different from the machining bottom height plane.

Inventor Graphics Settings

  • Please avoid using Compatibility hardware mode in Inventor 2014 because the mode does not support toolpath visualization. We recommend using Quality or Performance mode instead.

  • The navigation controls shown during simulation do not work properly when using Windows 7 Classic theme on some machines.
  • It is not easy to select the toolpath points in Simulation if the View Style is set to Perspective.
  • Certain materials (e.g. Gold-metal) do not display correctly during simulation.
  • Avoid changing the material or the simulation mode when a simulation is playing, as this can cause a crash.

New installation

  • The Autodesk Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2017 bundle installer includes both Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017 and Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2017, where Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017 can be optionally installed.
  • Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2017 is compatible with the 2014, 2015 and 2016 versions of Inventor and Inventor LT.
  • If you are running an existing installation of Autodesk Inventor Professional alongside an Inventor HSM/HSM Pro bundle install on the same machine, please activate both using the same license.
  • Before you install Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2016, please make sure to run Windows Update, install all Windows Updates that are pending on your machine, and reboot:
    • Windows 8 and Windows 8.1: Windows Update is located in the Control Panel, which is accessible on the desktop Charms Bar, Settings menu.
    • Windows 7: Windows Update is located in the Control Panel, which is accessible from the Start menu.
    • It is sometimes necessary to perform a Windows Update multiple times to completely update your operating system.
  • Verify that enough disk space is available on your machine to install Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2016.
  • Before installing Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2016, please uninstall all prior Autodesk beta products.
  • Download Inventor HSM/HSM Pro 2016 from
  • Follow the instructions to download and launch the installer. Temporary extraction is to your temp folder. Operating system errors regarding very long path names can occur if the temporary location is nested too many levels deep.
  • If the installer does not launch, browse to the folder where the files were extracted, and double-click setup.exe.

Updating an existing installation

  • When a new update is available, an update notification will appear in the Autodesk Application Manager.
  • Please download and install the update package.

Before installing an update there is no need to uninstall a previous Inventor HSM release; but if you prefer to do so, you can uninstall the relevant release in Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel by accessing “View installed updates”.
